New Technology Allows Tailing Storage Facility Risk to Be Monitored from Space

December 16, 2024

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is collaborating with Value.Space to deploy satellite-based monitoring and risk profiling to lower the risk profile of tailings storage facilities (TSF).  Satellite analysis after the disaster revealed warning signs as early as 15 months before the collapse.  For new mining facilities, EcoVAP Matrices can be deployed to reduce the TSF’s liquid content, usually by >90%, and the land footprint by >95%.  For both new and existing facilities, EcoVAP Matrices can generally be deployed in 3-20 weeks, depending on size.
