Biggest Permian Earthquake to Date Underscores EcoVAP’s Value as Energy-Less Enhanced Evaporator

November 8, 2023

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake in the Permian Basin, about 200 miles west of El Paso, is believed to be the largest earthquake in the area to date.  This will again lead regulators and oil/gas companies to revisit their produced water disposal strategy as the predominant use high pressure injection wells are the main cause of these earthquakes.  A 2022 report by the University of Texas at Austin concluded that 68% of Texas quakes above magnitude 1.5 were "highly associated" with oil and gas production.  As a biomimicry-based enhanced evaporation technology, EcoVAP stands ready to reduce the volume of produced water in the region by >95%.
