There are an estimated 161,000 abandoned mining sites across the U.S., most of which have left behind contaminated soils or toxic lakes that seep into rivers and underground aquifers. Even for the mines that are still operating, only 40% of their wastewater is treated. With its ability to evaporate away the water from the toxic lakes and tailings ponds, allowing for the subsequent gathering and proper disposal or recycling of the contaminants, ECOVAP provides a cost effective and environmentally sound means for remediation and management of mining wastewater.
