This Forbes article discusses the recent lawsuit of the New Mexico Attorney General against plans to store nuclear waste in the area. New Mexico is similar to many other states that have recorded an exponential increases in human “induced” earthquakes from wastewater injection. Hence, the lawsuit cites “the risk of a large earthquake that could damage the canisters of hot radioactive material and allow it to leak…” and refers to several earthquakes, registering over 5 on Richter scale, that did significant damage to surface buildings.
