Alaska’s Pebble Mine project was vetoed under section 404(c) of the federal Clean Water Act. Construction of the mine would have cost [?]$4.7 billion. Reserve estimates place Pebble as the largest undeveloped copper mine in the world, and also including very large gold and molybdenum deposits. The ruling was a reversal of rulings as recent as July 2020, reflecting increased concerns about possible failings of some huge mining tailing ponds and acid mine drainage into the Salmon-rich Bristol Bay. ECOVAP believes that these environmental concerns could be greatly alleviated by its ability to naturally reduce wastewater volumes by at least 90%. (READ FULL STORY)
